Abby's Accomplishments

Abby's Accomplishments

From classroom initiatives to community involvement, Abby Sanchez is always focused on how she can make a difference.

Mental Health Matters.

For Our Students, Parents, & Staff Members.

Abby advocates for our students & staff member’s mental wellness. As a veteran teacher and parent herself, she has seen first hand how important our student’s mental health is, and how a lack of support can negatively impact so many other aspects of their life. During her time on the school board, Abby implemented multiple initiatives to help provide our students, teachers and parents with the support that they need. Listed below are a few of her favorite mental health related initiatives:

  • Holding meetings with students, parents and staff on a monthly basis at schools to discuss social, emotional, and mental health and well being.

  • Initiating multiple programs, including Facebook lunch & learns, Family Night Forums with free babysitting, & Parent & Student Voice Forum.

  • Teacher Mental Health Days which provide teachers with hands-on classroom volunteers who give teachers a well-deserved break.

  • Regularly scheduled school visits to observe real-world situations

Other Accomplishments

Physics Bus Fleet: A County-wide Initiative

The SCPS Physics Bus Elementary fleet is now complete with a third bus focused on Electricity and Magnetism. The project, which began in 2019 with a vision to provide standards-based physics exploration and lab activities to 4th and 5th grade students, continues to engage and inspire students beyond the 2019 Mechanics Bus and the 2020 Optics Bus.

The fleet provides unique opportunities for students to explore the world of physics. Our new Electricity and Magnetism bus introduces them to circuits, motors, and electromagnetic fields. Labs invite students to design circuits, explore the behavior of conductors and insulators, and engage with the Physics Bus Van der Graaf generator (SCPS, 2024).

Career Readiness and Vocational Programs:

Additionally, Abby helped implement numerous career and vocational programs for our students.

SCPS hosts a variety of magnet programs, programs of emphasis, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. These range from the Academy of Finance, which she helped establish directly, to aviation mechanics programs, and to HVAC/plumbing at Lyman.

Some of the programs Abby worked with directly include the Academy of Finance program at Lake Brantley High School, and the Altamonte Springs Science Incubator (Pure Alta) Program.

An additional program that helps prepare students for the future is the “living on my own program” in some of our middle schools that Abby helped initiate. In it, students learn all about financial responsibilities, from balancing a checkbook to learning how to budget!

Advocacy for ESE Students

Abby advocates for students that need additional support with Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) or 504’s. She helps students and parents navigate through the proper channels, and directs them to whomever they may need to contact to receive all of the services that they need.

All of our students have gifts and areas of strengths, just as all students have areas where they can develop. It is important to ensure that we provide access to all students in all areas, regardless of need.

Legal Advocacy

Abby initiated the JUUL lawsuit in Seminole County, alongside several other counties in the states to protect our students. Seminole County Public Schools won two million dollars afterwards, which went towards helping educate our youth on the dangers of vapes.
